ORTHODONTICS

Orthodontics is the speciality related with the study, prevention and treatment of problems with growth, development and maturation of the face, dental arcades and bite, in other words, of the dentofacial dysfunctions.

This area is divided into Fixed Orthodontics (brackets and bands glued to the teeth), Removable Orthodontics (removable appliances) and Aesthetic Orthodontics (invisible aligners and aesthetic self-ligating braces).

What is the most appropriate treatment?

The simplest orthodontic problems can be treated by a General Dentist or even by a Pediatric Dentistry, who should have the discernment of referring the patient to an Orthodontist Dentist, if the case is more complex.

In child development, these discrepancies can be treated with removable, fixed and, in some cases, with orthopedic braces. In adults, when the bone bases are very discrepant, orthognathic surgery is indicated.
